PATTAYA, Thailand – A grim discovery in a Pattaya canal has brought a three-day search to a close, with rescuers recovering a body believed to be that of a Korean man who vanished after being carried off by floodwater.

Foreign Man Missing After Being Swept Into Canal Near Pattaya

The body was pulled from a canal in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi, at 6.05pm on 27 September 2026. Formal identification has yet to be completed.
The remains were found beside an electrical power plant in Soi Siam Country Club, Nong Prue — an area flanked by a banana plantation and a stretch of canal choked with thick overgrowth.

Authorities from Nong Prue police station, tourist police, immigration and local administration, along with a duty doctor from Pattaya Pathamakun Hospital, converged on the scene after the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Rescue Centre was alerted by a member of the public.

Rescuers discovered the body floating face down mid-waterway, entangled in grass. It had begun to decompose and emitted a powerful odour.
Officials noted that the clothing resembled what a Korean man was wearing when he fell near the bridge approach at Khlong Ta Yai in Soi Noen Plub Wan, Nong Prue, in the early hours of 24 September.

The person who spotted the body, a 25-year-old fisherman named Oliver, said he had been scouting for a fishing spot when he noticed what looked like a person lying face down in the canal. Suspecting it was the missing Korean man swept away three days earlier, he contacted the authorities.

The original incident unfolded when three foreign men were walking through floodwater and one was dragged away by the current. The other two managed to survive and left the area on foot.

Investigators documented the scene before the body was transferred for post-mortem examination and identity verification. Police, tourist police and Chonburi immigration officers will now work to confirm whether the deceased is the Korean man reported missing, establish his identity, and locate his relatives.
